Anyfin is an app set out to improve peoples finances through clearer insights. I was tasked with conceptually solve the identified problem of users spending more money than they've planned for on a monthly basis.
Make it easier for Anyfin's users to prevent monthly overspending via a customizable widget, extending upon the native app. The feature should have users interact with it at least once a week.
76% of users said their main financial problem was spending more than they should every month
Users surveyed were 60% female and 40% male, between 20-35 years old
35% said that socializing caused them to go over-budget. Even if users set a limit at the start of the month they can’t anticipate spontanous social activities
45% said that food spending was where they ended up overspending; they’d make a plan to cook most of their meals but then ending up feeling lazy and getting food delivery instead
Prototype iteration & testing
Interactions optimized using interactive UI mockups
Introducing an overview of the spendings category of choice, presented through a trainable model that pings the user in order to stay on track.
First off the user gets presented with suggested transactions from their connected bank account which they can choose to include to the pot or ignore, helping the widget to learn.
The widget then collects all relating transactions and presents them on a timeline, visualising how the user is tracking with set goal. They can then alter the way the period is displayed by preference.
Motivate saving within overspent category through tracking and placing unspent amounts to a bonus 'Buffer bank'
App retention increased by continuous feedback to user, also allowing for a monthly summary with further insight via email
Widget is improved over time by learning to group only relevant transactions
